Richard Enlists

For those of you who didn't know Richard will fulfill his lifelong dream.  Richard enlisted in the army this summer and will become a linguist for the United States Army.  Richard will go to basic training (aka.. Bootcamp)  January 18th.  His training will be about 10 weeks long and will take place in Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri.  I am hoping to fly out to his graduation come end of March.  From there they will send Richard to Monterey, California for schooling.  His schooling will be learning a new language and will take approximately 2 years.

Once Richard gets to California he is going to apply for onbase housing.  Once he can find us a place to live Savannah will finish out the school year here in Grantsville and we will make our move to California.

I'm not sure exactly what to say from here... I'm not sure where we will end up after schooling is done. I guess we'll see where the army wants us based.  I plan on starting a new blog... "Thoughts of an army wife" or something here real soon.  It will keep you updated on Richards progress and what's going on.

People ask me how I feel about Richard joining the army at age 31.  For the most part I'm not sure how to answer even still. All I can say is I trust God. This was never in our plan or agenda.  We just moved into a home we thought we would retire in and have loved our new location in Grantsville.  God has had different plans for our lives.  Richard was applying for federal and state jobs and they fell through.  He asked me if he could join and told me he wouldn't without my support but I felt like this was just him.  This was something he wanted to do and I didn't want to be the one that held him back.  And I definitely didn't want to see him laying brick for the rest of his life.  I am supportive of my husband and back him up 100%; and I know the feeling is mutual.  There were some things that happened during this process, things I can't go into detail here, but God told me it was going to be okay.  He told me vivid and clear that my family would in some way be blessed because of a righteous husband that Richard is, and he's going to be used in this situation to bring glory to God. I have felt peace about everything ever since.  Everything is just falling into place according to His plan and His purpose.  At this point, I'm a little concerned about the selling of our house.  I know it will sell in God's perfect timing.  I'm just being a little impatient. :)

I can't believe I'm about to start a new journey that only a handfull can say they have lived.  I take that thought and will use it to our advantage, our new journey, and our new way of life for the next several years.  Here are some pictures I took at Richard's swearing in to the United States Army.

I'm very excited for Richard to have this opportunity. I think it will be very fulfilling for him. I wish you the best in this adventure and I'm going to miss you guys so much. I don't know what I'm going to do without those two little girls around. It will give us a good excuse to go on vacation and visit.

Hang in there. With the right attitude and trust, you can do this. Richard needs your support and your girls need your smile.
I hope you will talk if you need to, although not an Army wife, I know the drill anyway as a Marine wife.
